East WickhamScale: 2mm:1 foot East Wickham was constructed to act as a demonstration and Drive It Yourself layout. The layout has two operational inner and outer tracks, plus a controllable goods yard that can handle any traffic. We wanted a fairly simple track layout, so that it didn’t get too confusing for operators and the constructors. There have been a few tweaks in places, but this has not stopped the layout fully functioning. The stock provided for the layout has been donated from members, and the existing stock originally used on the High Gables layout. Operational stock provided could be of mixed period, and in some cases, Steam, Diesel and Electric all rolled into one. We had intended to have a third rail, but this will be for our next major layout due for construction later on. It can be operated by any region, any train… This layout is different to most in that it has been designed with two controllers mounted at the front of the layout. This allows visitors to drive the layout themselves for a small donation and in return get a certificate of "Good Driving". The layout is hugely popular with younger visitors and because of its size can be taken almost anywhere to local events where the club is able to promote forthcomming exhibitions and provide something a bit different at a small event such as a craft fair.
