Blackfriars Bridge Station
A P4 (18.83mm gauge) model of Blackfriars Bridge Station as it was in 1873.
Of course there is very little in the way of commercially available locos and stock,
nor is there much in the way of background material.
The station was built by the London, Chatham and Dover Railway on the south side of the river Thames and opened in 1864.
On the upper level was the passenger station and goods yard, on the lower level was the goods depot accessed by 2 wagon hoists.
Passenger traffic only lasted until 1885 when the LCDR's St Paul's station was opened.
It finally closed to goods traffic in 1964 and most of the station has now been demolished, but some parts still remain.
Over the years there were many alterations to the station, the choosen period is probably the most interesting,
before the passenger service stopped and the goods yard was extended.
The model is about 24 feet long with fiddle yards at both ends. Where possible the model
is being built without compromise, even on track lengths. Most of the trackwork is complete,
and it has a working turntable and two wagon hoists, however nearly all of the scenic work is still to be done.
